Fab Flick Friday: Doctor Zhivago

As I trekked down to my mailbox tonight, I sort of felt like Yuri Andreyevich Zhivago making his way through Siberia.

Okay, maybe it wasn’t that bad, but this weather is definitely making me think of my favorite snow-filled movie, 1965’s Doctor Zhivago.

Fab Flick Friday: The Take

It’s December 2nd, and you know what that means…

‘Tis the season to watch a really awesome British miniseries about a mob family in the 1980s, starring perhaps the most talented actor out there today.

And talk about a coincidence - the first installment of The Take premieres on Encore tonight!

Fab Flick...Saturday?: I Know What You Did Last Summer

Okay, okay, so I’m cheating a little bit. First I let so much time go between posts, then I have the nerve to make a Fab Flick Friday pick on a Saturday? But I can explain. Contrary to what you may be thinking, my lapse in blogging is not because I’ve been busy watching too much Mad Men, mourning Friday Night Lights, or Google-stalking Tom Hardy. I’ve just been focusing on my – dare I say it? – other writing. (Can we still be friends?) As for the switching up of movie night – it’s Halloween weekend, and it’s cold and rainy. I don’t know about you, but that tells me it’s the perfect time to make some hot cocoa, pop some Orville Redenbacher and watch the teen slasher hit, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Listen, don’t judge me for not picking something scarier. If you were a sixteen-year-old girl when this movie came out, you’d have a special fondness for it too.

Fab Flick Friday: The Devil Wears Prada

If you're an Entourage fan like I am, this eighth and final season is probably leaving you with a feeling somewhere between excitement for what's going to happen and bittersweet anticipation of the looming end. (How will it all unfold with Ari and Mrs. Ari? Is Vince really fine with being sober? Will Johnny Drama eclipse Baby Bro's stardom?) With only five weeks to go, I can't help but wonder what I'll do with my Sunday nights without Vince and the boys. Fortunately, I do know that any time I need my Vinnie Chase fix - I mean, my Adrian Grenier fix - I can always turn to this week's Fab Flick Friday pick, The Devil Wears Prada.

Fab Flick Friday: Legally Blonde

Warning: What I’m about to say may make you feel old.

Ten years ago this week, Legally Blonde was released in theaters.

How is this possible? Looking at the facts, I know that it’s true, but I just can’t believe that Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods has been in my life for a full decade. (Of course, I’m so glad that she has been.) To celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of the most pink-infused, girl power movies of all time, I have to honor Legally Blonde as this week’s Fab Flick Friday pick.

Fab Flick Friday: Funny Girl

I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, but when I woke up today, it was pitch black outside and there was a torrential downpour. Not exactly an ideal summer morning. It got me thinking about rainy day movies, those fantastic films that make you want to close the blinds, curl up on the couch with your dog and forget about whatever may be going on outdoors. On days like this, if I have no place to be, I don’t care how hard it’s raining as long as I have a hot cup of tea, my favorite blanket, and today’s Fab Flick Friday pick, 1968’s Funny Girl.

Fab Flick Friday: Two for the Road

Fourth of July weekend. It’s a time for cookouts, jaunts to the beach, and if you’re very lucky, perhaps a long weekend away. In honor of that tradition (and because I’ve recently returned from a vacation of my own), I’ve chosen as this week’s Fab Flick Friday pick one of my favorite travel movies: Two for the Road, starring Albert Finney and my hero when it comes to everything in life, the incomparable Audrey Hepburn.

Fab Flick Friday: Dirty Dancing

There are some movies that will never get old. Whether you watch them five times or five hundred, they are always, always great.

Dirty Dancing is one of those movies.

Fab Flick Friday: Some Like It Hot

“I used to think as I looked over the Hollywood night, ‘There must be thousands of girls sitting alone like me, dreaming of becoming a movie star. But I’m not going to worry about them. I’m dreaming the hardest.’” ~Marilyn Monroe

Fab Flick Friday: Confessions of a Shopaholic

For many, Memorial Day means a long weekend spent firing up the grill. For some, it means something else:

Big sales.

In honor of that tradition, today’s Fab Flick Friday pick is Confessions of a Shopaholic – one of my favorite movies, based on one of my favorite books, involving one of my favorite activities.

Fab Flick Friday: One Fine Day

There are some things that get better with age. Vintage clothing. Certain cheeses. George Clooney.

That’s right, friends – Dr. Doug Ross turns fifty today!

Fab Flick Friday: High Society

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but the Royal Wedding is one week away.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In honor of the big event, it seems only fitting that my first pick for Fab Flick Friday be High Society, a movie starring our very own American Princess, Grace Kelly.
